Re: [Pipe smokers] Tobacco consistency.

One thing that I think some people forget regarding 'consistency' is
that tobacco is a crop harvested yearly and affected by lots of
factors. Year to year changes in tobacco leaves are going to effect a
blend somewhat, I would think. (Course, as with all things, I am not
exactly an expert.)

I do notice people complain about Sam Gawith's flake thickness. I
find it perfectly consistent. Half are perfectly thin and half are
perfectly thin with a very thick edge on one side. (Like maybe it was
the end of the cake and their ancient machinery couldn't hold it
straight and cut it at the same time.) I just rub it all out and put
the thick stuff in the bowl first; thin stuff on top. It works for
me. Their flakes always taste good.

That is the extent of my near expertness on the subject. I defer to
Joe H on the matter, and most other matters for that matter.

other words, I think there is such a range of variance with each
smoker with too great a variety of factors which cannot be measured,
and therefore can not be related to variance with any blender or
manufacturer.
