What blend did you purchase, Eric? If you are suggesting 'strong' in
terms of nicotine, most English/Balkan blends are much lower
in 'strength' than others. Now, with that said, Syrian Latakia is
actually rather high in nicotine. I have found over the years that I
actually prefer Cyprian Latakia (and you will find it in most
English/Balkan blends these days). On a related note, I also find
Syrian Latakia to be fishy with a bit of an edge while Cyprian
Latakia is creamier and smoother. If you are talking 'strong' in
terms of flavour, well, that is personal preference. Certainly, I
find (as a former cigar smoker), that English/Balkan blends taste
better to my palate than, for example, Burley- or Virginia-based
blends (both higher in nicotine and usually better choices for former
or current cigarette smokers). 'Earthy' (not 'woody' or 'grassy') is
a good word to describe Latakia-based blends, however. Let us know
how you like your new blend....
