Re: [Pipe smokers] blending

Well, I've done my fair share of blending for myself... But, over the last several years, my staple smokes are mostly VA and VA/PER blends, and honestly, it's pretty hard to beat any of the McClelland blends for that genre. So, I stock up on tins a few times a year of MC blends and Red Ribbon from McCranie's.

Yeah, i found my solution with Briar Fox but these days i am curious about blending my own mix. I have never tried it before. Do you blend regularly???

Hmmm... Well, HOTW is a pretty straight forward (Straight) VA, so really, anything you mix in to it is going to dramatically affect the flavor... it's a pretty neutral smoke IMHO.

Let's look at it like this...

Burley - High amount of Nic, but the blend is going to be completely dominated by the Burley.

Perique - Also, much nicotine, but it's going to REALLY spice up the flavor (because you'll have to add a good amount to affect the overall nicotine content)

Virginia - Why bother adding a VA to what is essentially a top shelf VA already?

Latakia - Don't bother, low nic and will affect the taste more than any other tobacco

Just my 2 cents, hope it helps...

Best-
Jeff

Hey Jeff. The base tobacco would be a Virginia blend eg Rattrays Hotw

Hi all. I would like to know how to boost the nicotine level of an existing tinned blend. Which tobaccos should i add to the blend that will not change the taste too much while still getting the nicotine boost.

Thank you
