I'm glad you had good sales from your collection. It is always nice to percolate a collection and get new ones into the fold. That other Kaywoodie went to Jack's in exchange for product, and it, along with the others should be cleaned and ready to go on Jack's estate pipe rack in a few days. A quick email should reserve it for you till you can get down to pick it up.
One of the most interesting pipes I saw sell was a hand-carved E. Andrew. He had been commissioned to make the pipe with the carving of an eagle on the front a number years ago, and the guy who bought put it in his mouth, then walked up to Ed. Ed said, "hey, I think I made a pipe like that, let me see it." I was kidding Ed that the pipe must have been the precursor for his Eagle Grade series. Ed recalled the story of the pipe - a customer had commissioned him to make the pipe, and he hadn't seen since he sold it many years ago.

Had a great time at this year's MAPS show. Spent some quality time with
Joe H. Bought two gorgeous Kaywoodies from Joe that are older than me and
that is saying something. Tasted the notorious Stuffed Green Pepper soup and
came back with a nice Castello and a Ser Jacopo and sold about 80 from my
ridiculously overblown collection. Trying to introduce more focus into my
eclectic taste. We have some MAPS members that not only primarily collect one
brand, but, one shape of that brand. That is focus that I admire.

Hi, Ron, we just got home I didn't have internet access once I left the
hotel to get to Pete's by 7am for setup, so I didn't see your
message till I got home. I'll let the members know that I heard from you
when I send in my update to MAPS.
As usual I got bit at the show and came home with three lonely pipes looking
for a new home. I'll fill in the group tomorrow with a report of the
show Right now I just want to rest and come back down to earth.

You're making me so nostalgic to be back in Milwaukee today Joe.
I've attended every Milwaukee Pipe Show up to July 2006. I only get
back to Milwaukee for visits now once or twice a year. Give my hellos to
all the guys (& Mary too) in MAPS.

We're in Milwaukee this weekend for the Milwaukee Pipe Shop, our 8th
Annual. I spent the day at Jack's Tobacco yesterday, catching up on old
friendships and admiring the group of estate pipes Jack had in the rack. It
was good to be in an active smokeshop again - I've found nothing even close
in Iowa in the past 2 years. I got a good update on the pipe and cigar scene
from Jack and Mary, and throughout the day customers I had worked with over the
years stopped by for their regular smokes, and we had a chance to get caught up
on goings-on in our lives since we last met. By 6pm, members started
showing up for the reception held by the club, which got into full swing when
the pizzas arrived from Pete's and the coolers of liquid refreshments came
in out of the trunks of cars. Monte from this group arrived shortly after,
and I think this will be his virst visit to the show. If you haven't met
Monte, you will enjoy his enthusiasm for pipes and
tobaccos, and find that he is a very nice person. I had met him for the first
time in Chicago, and brought a few of my Kaywoodie pipes that he said he may be
interested in. He selected two 4 digit pipes, and I'm glad they found a
good home. I'll take the last of my collection to the show today, and
hope to find new owners for them. They are all the older white cloverleaf
logo that is surrounded by a circle.
Several friends from the Chicago area showed up, and pipes started appearing
out of cases, which really livened up the conversations, and started the
ritual of scramblilng for trades or purchases. The number of serious
collecters at the reception portended the tone of the show that starts at 10
this morning. Two pipes donated by Alberto Bonfiglioli for the Silent Auction
arrived yesterday, and I heard that the pieces available for the auction
already exceeded previous events over the past 7 shows, so it looks like the
show already is showing signs of being one of the best we've had.
I'll try to have a more detailed report when we get home tomorrow night.
