Re: [Pipe smokers] my first latakia blend

A good test for moisture is to grab a clod of tobacco with your first 2 fingers and thumb.  While holding it, press the clod firmly with the thumb and fingers, then release the pressure.  If the depression of your thumb stays on the clod, it is too moist.  If the clod easily falls apart when you releast the pressure, it is dry enough.  If you can't get the loose tobacco to stick together at all, even with lots of pressure, it is too dry.  These are general rules, from which you can develop your own preferences.

It is a blend from a local tobacconist called Marco polo. I tried it
last night in a cob pipe and it was a bit harsh. I think I'll try it in
my 'bash and see if it mellows it a bit. Any idea how moist it should be?

thanks
