Doug, the process of additional curing and aging are completely different in tins than in bulks. Packing tightly in jars with a good seal will still allow them to change with storage, just not the same way as it would in tins. Virginias do age better than other tobacco types. But, some Oriental blends will mellow with closed/sealed storage, but not to the extent that the Virginias will. Latakia and Burley tobaccos will not change significantly with closed/sealed storage, but cellared blends may be less costly now than in the future if taxes and prices continue to climb, and if it happens to be a blend that is discontinued, you will still have some to enjoy later.

I have a question that I haven't seen answered here before.
I order most of my tobacco in tins, but some I get in bulk for the
price. I just received 2 lb of Squadron Leader, so I did my usual thing.
I put it in several Mason jars. I have always put as much tobacco in
each jar as I could, which involved packing the tobacco in real tight.
From a curing standpoint, will this slow or stop the aging process?
Will this be a problem for some tobaccos and not others?
Doug
