I have this same frustrating difficulty--not with my meer--but with my calabash (like Kyle).  I love the pipe but smoking it (if I can even get it lit) is a real chore so I rarely smoke it anymore.  I'm sure the problem/fault also lies in the draught hole.  But I must say....this calabash sure looks good on display on my pipe shelves.

I have the same problem with a Meer. It has become so bad that i am not smoking that pipe anymore. It seems the problem lies in the draught hole. Only the thin part of the pipe cleaner can go through.
